Sometimes it can be next to impossible to find that perfect fit furnishing. A great alternative to spending countless hours hunting through stores and websites, to find the right style and color, is to build it yourself. That is what we did to create this lovely, rustic style console.

Step 1: Select a design
There are a myriad of DIY furniture design walk-throughs available on the web. Select a style and color that will work in your space. We followed the design of the Rustic X Console by Ana White.
Step 2: Build your console to fit your space
Follow the steps to build your selected furnishing piece. If you need to modify the design to accommodate your space, do so at this point. Below is an overview of the steps we followed to create ours.
Cut your lumber to the appropriate lengths. You can do this yourself if you have a miter saw, or have it cut in-store.
Use your pocket hole drill kits to drill the required holes into your lumber pieces.
Assemble your frame pieces first.
If your design features shelves, secure them to one side of your frame.
Repeat this step for the second shelf.
Once you’ve secured the shelves, apply wood glue before attaching the second frame.
Lift and place the second frame. Secure together with screws.
Insert and secure all the finishing element of the table, such as the table lip and decorative cross bars.
Drill the pocket holes needed to attach the table top.
Place table top on and secure in place with screws.
Now that the heavy lifting has been completed, you can focus on the fun decorative part – painting and applying finishing touches.
Step 3: Paint
Paint your console in the color of your choice. We used the color Chateau PPU7-06 in Premium Plus Ultra Satin finish. Allow the first coat to dry. Apply second coat if necessary/desired.

Step 4: Apply decorative hardware
Attach your corner brackets and black lag screws to the corners and legs with an adjustable wrench for a rustic look.
When complete decorate for the holiday or everyday.
