Choosing a color scheme for your home can be a daunting task, especially if you worry you’ll tire of a certain color or combination. That’s one of the reasons we love the idea of decorating with a soft pastel or neutral color scheme. These barely-there shades are a lovely option, and just because they aren’t bold doesn’t mean they have to be boring! Here are some of our favorite ways to use neutral wall colors in a more interesting way:
1. Pair it with a wall treatment
In the photo below, the bathroom features a creamy white wainscoting on the bottom of the wall, paired with a soft green on the top. By balancing texture and color, you’re left with a charming, neutral space that is anything but dull.
2. Play with pattern
Wallpaper and patterns are a fabulous way to use a neutral color scheme in a playful way. We love the way this space features a stripe on the fireplace wall in two warm shades of taupe to create an extra layer of dimension. It creates the perfect focal point in a living area.
3. Pick a color that brings out your view
The gorgeous light green in the space below is perfect for this mudroom because it echoes the leafy trees outside the large window. Picking a shade that already exists in the space is a perfect way to draw inspiration.
4. Go for complementary colors
The mauve color in this hallway feels interesting but at home in this space because of the way it compliments the light greens in the large painting. By picking a shade on the opposite end of the color wheel, the wall color feels at home with this painting.
