A New Roof Made Easy
Our house was built in the 1930s and ever since we have moved in, we have focused on fixing up the inside of our home. We have known for quite a while that our roof needed replacing and that the trim needed some paint, but we kept putting it off. After a recent windstorm, we realized we couldn’t delay getting a new roof anymore.
I hopped online and started looking at shingles on The Home Depot’s website. I fell in love with the look of the GAF Timberline HD Lifetime shingles because the coloring makes it looked shadowed which gives it depth. It reminded me of how the original wood shingles on my house would have looked before they were covered up. I went ahead and scheduled a time for someone to come out and give me a quote.
I have never had to replace a roof before and didn’t know that much about roofs in general, so I didn’t know how bad our roof situation really was. Craig, from The Home Depot Services team was awesome! He explained everything and made sure I had big samples of the colors, so I could choose which I liked best. It ended up that we needed a new… everything! The asphalt shingles that were up there were installed overtop of the original wood shingles and we only had 2 small vents.
Out With the Old, in With the New
The crew showed up and started taking off the old shingles. They were so careful to protect the flower beds. None of my flowers were damaged! They tore everything off clear down to the slats.
They added some plywood decking and a water proofing layer before starting on the shingles.
It was so fun to watch the process! Especially when they used the conveyor belt to get the shingles up on the roof. They added some much-needed venting. We now have ridge venting along the top and turtle vents along the back of the house. I must admit, I never gave much thought to how well my roof was ventilated before this!
I am so happy that we went with the GAF Timberline shingles not only because they look beautiful and mimic real wood shake shingles, but because they have a lifetime warranty which can be transferred to a new owner if you sell the house.
Since our new trim color on the house was a dark brown, I chose Mission Brown as the color for our new shingles. It works perfectly!
