Mirror Paint Project: Flower Vase with a Mirror Finish

It’s amazing the things you can do with mirror paint. Specifically, we’re talking about Mirror Effect Spray Paint from Rust-Oleum, which gives a super shiny, mirror-like surface to glass and acrylic glass.

We’re going to show you how to take an ordinary glass vase and turn it into an elegant and glamorous mirrored vase. We’ll also show you how to give the finish a more distressed look, similar to mercury glass.

Once you’ve completed this project, you’ll see how the sky’s practically the limit when it comes to using mirror paint make ordinary objects shine.

Step 1

Find a spot outdoors or highly ventilated area and cover nearby items with drop cloths or old sheets to protect them from spray paint mist.

Step 2

Clean the inside and outside of your glass vase using a lint-free cloth.

Step 3

Wrap a paper towel around paint stick and secure it with painter’s tape.

Fill the spray bottle with even parts water and vinegar.

Step 4

Tape and cover the outside of the glass with paper or a plastic bag to prevent overspray.

Step 5

Hold the can of Rust-Oleum Specialty Mirror Effect spray paint 10-12 inches from the surface or mouth of the vase.

Spray a light coat on the inside of the vase.

Step 6

While the paint is still wet, spritz the painted inside with the water/vinegar solution.

Blot the inside of the vase with a paper towel to take the look from a mirrored to a distressed/mercury glass effect.

Step 7

Repeat the previous step of spraying and dabbing with paper towel until the desired look is achieved.

Let dry for several hours and enjoy your new work of art!

Optional: For an even greater contrast and distressed look, add a light coating of Rust-Oleum Ultra Cover 2X Flat Black spray paint to the inside and blot with a paper towel.

Optional: If you plan to fill your glass vase or jar with live flowers, make sure to add a coat of Rust-Oleum Ultra Cover 2X Clear spray paint to the inside. This will act as a sealant and ensures your project stays in top condition.
