DIY Cake Stands

I love the idea of having a huge selection of fancy cake stands to entertain with during the holidays, but I really don’t use them enough throughout the year to rationalize buying a whole collection. They can be pretty expensive!

I thought it might be fun to create my own DIY cake stands with simple thrifted materials and a little help from Rust-Oleum Gold Metallic Spray Paint and Primer. For only a couple dollars each, these festive cake stands are perfect for your holiday parties, and year round.

Here’s how I did it…

Step 1

Find some plain white plates, candlesticks or vases at your local thrift store. Try to find candlesticks or vases that have a wide base or top to glue a plate onto (we found that some of them were best flipped upside down).

Step 2

Spray paint the candlesticks or vases gold with Rust-Oleum Gold Metallic Paint. Since it’s a paint and primer in one, you only need one coat to get the gorgeous rich gold color.

Step 3

After the stands are dry, squeeze E6000 glue on the edges of the stand.

Step 4

Stick the plate on top of the cake stand with the glue. Press firmly to hold and wait an hour or two before trying to move them.

Once the glue has set, decorate your DIY cake stands with your favorite treats and decor for your holiday party!
