Good patio design makes the most of an outdoor space. Here we have a patio with a good deal of room, but in a long and fairly narrow layout. We love how it became two comfortable and lovely spaces: a covered outdoor seating area and a patio dining area.
We asked Long time best friends Mallory and Savannah, who blog at Classy Clutter, to take part in our Patio Style Challenge series here on The Home Dept Blog. Mallory lives in Buffalo, New York which was still covered in snow when this project got underway. So the patio redo and the terrific patio design ideas here are from Savannah, who lives in the sunny state of Arizona.
A Two-Part Patio Design
My patio space is on the side of my house and it is larger space but a bit awkward, and as you can see it was in bad need of some patio decor love.
My hope was to break up the space into two parts, with one part being a space that would be covered and have patio furniture for lounging, and the other part would be more of an outdoor dining area, with a table, a grill and string lights for ambiance.
Covered Patio Space
For the covered space, I wanted it to feel cozy and like somewhere that was a bit more private, so I created this wood wall that adds texture and gives an inviting feel. It was the perfect backdrop for my new covered seating area.
I lined the wood wall with trees to soften up the wood a bit. Using wire, wooden posts and shade coverings, I created an area where anyone can enjoy a little bit of rest and relaxation.
I love this is new patio set– an outdoor loveseat and two swivel rockers from the Spring Haven Grey patio collection, with cushions in Spectrum Sand. The slip covers are made from weather-resistant Sunbrella fabric in because the sun in Arizona so hard on outdoor fabric. This patio set is just so comfortable and the swivel rocking chairs are just great.
The planter box that was already in my space is now filled with plants and flowers to help join the two different spaces together.
The Outdoor Dining Area
I created an outdoor dining area by using a kitchen table and rug. The space was also defined by using string lights that were hung above the table.
This KitchenAid grill is one of the most amazing grills out there. It’s the KitchenAid 5-Burner Propane Gas Grill in Stainless Steel. It has a very sleek look and the light up screen is awesome.
I love my new patio and I am excited about the many parties that will be hosted there!
Savannah has published a few more photos of her patio makeover on Classy Clutter, including descriptions of some of the products she used in the makeover. Take a look!
