It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! It’s all I can say every time I drive up to our home now that I’ve begun the festive mood and decorated our outdoors for the holiday season.
When The Home Depot asked if I wanted to be a part of their 2012 Style Challenge for the Holiday season, I knew right away Challenge Accepted! I LOVE decorating for Christmas, and this is by far my favorite outdoor set up I’ve ever done. I knew right away I wanted a rustic outdoor scheme. I wanted to really bring nature into my décor pieces and have that homey-rustic feel. I added in hints of reds, white, and greens for the color scheme to have a “natural” holiday feel.
I’d love to walk you through my Christmas décor ideas bringing my whole front patio together. Starting with statement pieces that still have a lot of small details, I used a simple white bucket and filled it with Martha Stewart’s Silver Woodlands Pinecones to complement the rustic feel of the tiny pine tree.
I created a lot of depth and textures using a variety of decorative lanterns we had and paired them with a pile of wood. I LOVE the feel the wood and the rustic white crate give to the front porch. You can just picture the wood being used for a warm fire with the family gathered around.
A classic and elegant Martha Stewart ornament wreath adorns our front door, which I paired with a shimmery gold ribbon to wrap the door to appear as a welcoming present for everyone. I am crazy about the combination of ornaments used for this wreath and the details they give to the front porch. The combination of pinecone shaped ornaments, to bright gold glittery bulbs paired with the simple red bulbs. It’s the perfect addition.
The beautiful oversize wreath that hangs on our garage is the Martha Stewart Living 36 in. Pre-Lit Snowy Fir Wreath. It’s gorgeous and ties in the garage to our front patio so well. It came beautifully dusted with a fake white snow and white glistening lights. I wanted it to pop and contrast from our garage so I added a few subtle details.
I weaved in a beautiful red berry garland and added various bulb ornaments for more color. To hang the large wreath, I used the same ribbon from the front door and hung it from inside the garage. I tied a big, beautiful gold bow and added a touch of a glittery bulb ornament for the middle.
Another favorite décor item I used was the 60” Grapevine Light Up Reindeer. The bright lights and animated moving head adds so much character and life to the front patio.
Even though most passersby are those driving by on the street, I never forget about the small details that can make a space. I used bright red glittery poinsettia sticks and paired them with bulb ornaments to fill a rustic metal bucket. It creates such a variety of textures and colors in such a small space.
Apparently the space was so inviting our friendly neighbor dog joined us for a little visiting time. I think he’s on the outlook for Santa and some presents!
My 6-foot oversized Noel sign serves as a double duty feature. It not only brings in a large festive piece to the front patio, but it also conveniently hides the day/night timer that controls the lighting for the entire front patio and garage door.
Who is in the mood for some hot cocoa with marshmallows now? Hopefully I gave you some ideas how to decorate this holiday season using simple and rustic décor to fit in with the outdoors!
